unable to download pictures from olympus d-390 camera

when i plug my usb cable in to my computer (acer laptop) i get the message
one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and
windows does not reconise it any body know what my problem is because it is
sending me draft trying to sort it out please help
