Max Number of Photos in Directory / Max Directory Size

I am running Win XP Pro SP2 with .Net Framework 1.1, 80 GB harddisk/NTFS, 18
GB free.

What is the maximum number of photos I can put in a subdirectory? The max
number of gigabytes? Do the limitations differ in a root (C:\) or first
level subdirectory (C:\usa)?

I'm a bit nervous as I approach 64,000 photos in the current subdirectory
which now contains 53,782 photos and 5.71 GB in C:\usa\images\

When I export the photos to my ISP's Microsoft IIS 6.0 web server, any
problems/limits there?

A single subdirectory location makes programming the web user interface that
displays them and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database that organizes them
much simpler. To avoid database bloat, I prefer the photos not be stored on
the SQL Server.
