First, I'll apologize to the SyncToy team if this is the third time they've
received this message. My two previous attempts at providing feedback through the feedback forum crashed my browser. To all, I encourage you to use this thread to provide feedback on SyncToy 1.0 so the team can improve the product. To the team, thank you for writing this utility. For the most part it's great, and I use it on a daily basis. However, it is sorely missing a few critical features that shouldn't be hard to implement for v.1.1: 1) Provide the ability to sync a specific file, not just a folder. For instance, syncing my Outlook.pst. 2) Provide the optional ability to sync an open file. Again, I'll use my Outlook.pst file which never seems to close as an example. 3) Provide the ability to *exclude* files and file types from a sync. For instance, I have a monster project folder (several gigs) under Subversion version control. Excluding the thousands of Subversion control files would knock a ton of time off my sync and subsequent disc operations on the backup drive. 4) Provide the ability to group pairs into sets that can be run directly from the command line. For instance, this would allow me to run critical syncs every day without much disruption and leave longer syncs for a weekly run. Again great job on the tool. I'll look forward to v1.1 if it has these improvements. -Steve |
