Today, I downloaded and ran the WMF Hotfix and did the Un-register the
"shimgvw.dll" file. Ever since I have done this, I can no longer open jpegs, gifs, pictures period...with my Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. It no longer works. How can I fix this? Barb |

In news:59e259d77f4df@uwe,
Barb711 <u17303@uwe> had this to say: My reply is at the bottom of your sent message: > Today, I downloaded and ran the WMF Hotfix and did the Un-register the > "shimgvw.dll" file. > Ever since I have done this, I can no longer open jpegs, gifs, > pictures period...with my Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. The whole WMF vulnerability is largely FUD assuming you practice safe browsing and maintain current malware definitions and real-time scanning engines. Myself and another MVP spent a good three hours intentionally TRYING to get infected at known exploiting sites today and we weren't able to really do so without a lot of work. You can TRY this (I don't know if it will work) perhaps? Press Start Click on Run Type "regsvr32 %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll" without the quotes Hit enter Click Okay at the prompt For future reference, check before patching with stuff not from Microsoft. Many of us here have test bed systems and will happily test strange stuff out for you.
