I have the same problem as "PROBLEM ONE" described below. System is very
similar setup: Windows XP (SP1) with network connected HP2610xi all in one printer. I worked with HP support to reinstall printer. This did not fix problem. I can stop/start the print spooler service. Problem reoccurs with subsequent sessions. I don't want to have to stop/start service whenever turning on my machine. I did not perform steps described below to solve PROBLEM ONE (I didn't want to risk having "PROBLEM TWO"). I haven't seen a reply to this post for quite a while.
