I deleted some apparently important files while trying to get rid of some
malware. The files were described as being from Lexmark, and I thought I didn't need them. Apparently these files, there were about six in all if I remember correctly, controlled the print spooler. Now my printer is gone, and when I try to add it back I get a message that says something like "cannot complete task, print spooler is not running". I go to Services and try to start the spooler and get another error message, which I can't remember the exact details, only that I'm out of luck. I imagine I will need to do some kind of repair or reinstall to fix this problem of my creation, but I thought I'd post here first, for what its worth. Anyone have a suggestion? Windows XP os, HPDeskjet540, Thanks. |

Start>Run>type SFC /SCANNOW (space between C and /)
and press OK. Have your WindowsXP installation handy for it may ask for it. SFC = System File Checker This action will look for corrupt or missing system files and ask if you want to replace them. Hi,
In your case you can restore important files using Active@ undelete or Uneraser data recovery tools. These are truly powerful and reliable software that never failed me before and was always able to restore literally all of the lost data for me. http://www.active-undelete.com/ http://www.uneraser.com/ |

If you have really deleted the printer spooler service, then you'll need to
do a Repair Installation to get it back. First thing to try would be a System Restore to when you had the spooler which may work. -- Cari (MS-MVP) Printing & Imaging http://www.coribright.com/windows "emillsbailey@earthlink.net" <emillsbailey@earthlink.net@discussions.microsoft. com> wrote in message news:67160AEE-C6EB-4317-8D0E-FD990626CB96@microsoft.com... >I deleted some apparently important files while trying to get rid of some > malware.
