Greetings.
I've tried everything I can think of, but still can't figure this one out. I have a WinXP (desktop w/printer) and a Win98 (desktop w/printer) connected on a home network. The WinXP unit prints fine on either printer, but I can't get the Win98 unit to print on the WinXP printer. I keep getting an error message that says it isn't communicating and to check all the connections. HOWEVER, I know it's "communicating" somewhat because when I tell Win98 to print on the XP printer, the XP Printer info (name of printer, ink levels, etc.) pops up on the Win98 screen and appears as though all is well until a few seconds later when it says "not communicating". I've checked drivers. All OK. Both printers show up in control panel of Win98 unit. What am I missing??? Thanks. |

Is the UserName and Logon of the 98 PC added as a UserName on the XP PC?

Hi Cari:
Thank you for responding. We don't have a username/logon for the 98PC. We just power up and the desktop appears. Each PC "sees" each of the two printers, but I keep getting the error that there's a communication problem. I'll look through the link you sent and see if there's something there. Thanks. You can switch to Simple File Sharing in XP and then it won't ask.

GDI-printers may not work over the LAN especially when the OS versions on the PCs are different. > Thanks.
