Ok ... this is annoying the heck out of me ...
I have got a new Lexmark Z517 Inkjet printer and trying to attach it to my computer but getting installation error. I am told to NOT let WIndows install the software but to use the disk. I do that and everything is installed. I then have to reboot the system and that's where the problem lies. When I restart, Plug n Play finds new software, the Lexmark Z600 printer ! When I try to print anything I get a message stating the printer is not a Z510 series ...... ???? AARRGGHH !! Please advise? |

Did that and guess what ...
Didn't work. As soon as I connect the printer after re-installing all the software, Plug and Play recognises the printer as the wrong model (z600 not z510 series) Can I bypass PnP at all and tell my pc what it should have?? The 517 is a non US model and uses the 510 family printer driver. If you
have used safe mode to properly uninstall any existing drivers, and have installed the ones from the furnished CD or downloaded from Lexmark, and still have a problem-- Lexmark may have a utility that will remove vestiges of the old drivers. Check on the website for your region When all else fails. An inf file for Lexmark printers that has the incorrect information should be located, and modified or removed from the system. This may be a file distributed with windows. It may be in more than one location on the HD, including hidden subdirectories. This file usually will also help as a guide as to what registry entries are involved. This process is usually only necessary when the driver install process for new drivers does not clean up the system properly before the new driver install takes place. Since the system seems to want to install drivers for a Z600, this may be a clue. You might want to download the Z600 driver package, and take a look at it for an idea or two as to what files are involved.
