Every time I boot up I receive an erroroneous "New Hardware Found" error
described in Article 298370 <http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;298370> I am unable to delete faulty registry key, both in regular and Safe Mode. I receive an error message "Can not delete key". (FYI, I have also read prior messages in this Newsgroup reporting that deletion of this key does not solve the problem.) I have also checked Device Manager, but no exclamation marks or error messages are listed. Thanks to all knowledgable readers who can offer advice to solution. Robert |

Do you believe this New Hardware is a printer?

Yes. The error was initially triggered by reinstallation of an HP printer after I upgraded to XP S2. The printer is installed and working fine, but I keep getting this message every time I boot up. Looking forward to your advice, Thanks! that's the right instruction but PlugNPlay usually creates the registry key
in system context so the admin can't delete this key by default. The admin does have the power to add any user with Full access to the key so they can delete it. Edit the permissions of the key so you have full control. Then you can delete it. -- Alan Morris Windows Printing Team Search the Microsoft Knowledge Base here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[ln];kbhowto This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
