I'm not sure if this is where I should post this message. I'm not sure if
this newsgroup is strictly for problems printing faxes or if it's for general printing problems as well. If this post represents a faux pas of some sort, please forgive me. The printer described below has always printed regular and duplex color documents with no problem. However, either Word 2003 or Windows XP Pro SP2 ignores the print settings that I select when printing certain documents no matter how I set the print settings. One method that Suzann Barnhill suggested was to disable background printing ands temporarily change the print dialogue to send documents directly to the printer. However, instead of printing two-sided in keeping with the way the HP G85 AIO Color Printer works, which is automatic two-sided printing of each page as they print, something mistakenly assumes that the printer's only two-sided method is manual. So, it prints all of the pages on one side, then a dialogue pops up telling me to turn the pages over and reinsert them into the hopper to print side 2. That's not what I need. It's certainly not what I want. Consequently, I'd very much appreciate being advised as to how I can get these documents to print exactly in keeping with the print selections that I've made. -- With kindest regards, Dick Smith |

Which applications print duplex documents correctly and which do not?

Hi, Cari!
All applications that print, print in duplex mode properly. That is, they print any other document correctly. The problem is that certain Word documents simply won't print at all. Thai is, under normal settings Word sends the documents in their entirety to the spool, but for reasons I can't explain, the spooler never prints them. I'm fairly confident that these .doc files are somehow corrupted. However, I have yet to determine how they are corrupted, so I've had no way to remove the corruption. The things they all have in common are that the contain graphic images, and they contain large (larger than a printed page) tables. Aside from that the document contains page headings and normal text in True Type fonts. -- With kindest regards, Dick Smith "Cari (MS-MVP)" <Newsgroups1@coribright.com> wrote in message news:OWPZfbQCGHA.2668@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... > Which applications print duplex documents correctly and which do not? > -- > Cari (MS-MVP) > Printing & Imaging > http://www.coribright.com/windows > > > > " AA Smith" <SmithRMS@Comcast.net> wrote in message > news:uCA6M2NCGHA.2356@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... >> I'm not sure if this is where I should post this message. Hi, Cari!
It turns out that the problem rests with the way pages are created in the printer; they are converted by the built-in CPU in the printer from the format received from the computer (e.g., PCL or PS) to the final dots on the paper. This conversion needs printer RAM, which is often too small for home user printers. In this case, MS Word 2003 must have used more system resources for these documents due to large image files imbedded. Though I have a full 1gb of SDRAM, that was apparently not enough for the conversion process. I solved the problem by printing smaller sections of the document in separate print operations. That worked fine. Just thought you might like to know -- With kindest regards, Dick Smith "Cari (MS-MVP)" <Newsgroups1@coribright.com> wrote in message news:OeCcMBcCGHA.740@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > Since it's seems to be Word related, you might try asking the Office gurus > in the Word newsgroups. > -- > Cari (MS-MVP) > Printing & Imaging > http://www.coribright.com/windows > > > > " AA Smith" <SmithRMS@Comcast.net> wrote in message > news:e6E9%23aVCGHA.3064@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... >> Hi, Cari! >> >> All applications that print, print in duplex mode properly.
