I thought the purpose of a limited account was to stop users screwing up the
system, yet I have just locked out an admin account by denying access to "Documents and Settings" - all done from the limited account. Is this supposed to be the way XP works? Keith |

can't do it now - must have been doing something different than what I
thought. |

Maybe you were logged on as an administrator and did not realize it. Regular
users by default can not change permissions on any folder/file other than ones that they created, ones that were created for them and given full control, or their profile folders and certainly not do anything to lockout an administrator from any other folders. --- Steve "Keith" <newsgroup@email.com> wrote in message news:0868f.23303$Ih5.21862@fe1.news.blueyonder.co. uk... > can't do it now - must have been doing something different than what I > thought. > |

I think what I did was whilst logged on to the limited account, change the
permission on the folder that is assigned to the limited account to deny administrator access. I'm surprised that a user on a limited account can lock out an administrator - even if it is from their own folders. Yes a limited user could block access to administrators to their user
profile folders but administrators always have a trump card in that they can take ownership of any folder and grant themselves permission. --- Steve "Keith" <newsgroup@email.com> wrote in message news:Zn88f.26071$Ih5.9010@fe1.news.blueyonder.co.u k... >I think what I did was whilst logged on to the limited account, change the >permission on the folder that is assigned to the limited account to deny >administrator access. > > I'm surprised that a user on a limited account can lock out an > administrator - even if it is from their own folders. > > > > "Steven L Umbach" <n9rou@n0-spam-for-me-comcast.net> wrote in message > news:CPCdnU2zAsxQl_zeRVn-oA@comcast.com... >> Maybe you were logged on as an administrator and did not realize it. >> Regular users by default can not change permissions on any folder/file >> other than ones that they created, ones that were created for them and >> given full control, or their profile folders and certainly not do >> anything to lockout an administrator from any other folders. --- Steve >> >> >> >> "Keith" <newsgroup@email.com> wrote in message >> news:0868f.23303$Ih5.21862@fe1.news.blueyonder.co. uk... >>> can't do it now - must have been doing something different than what I >>> thought. >>> >> >> > > |
