I'm experiencing the same error that quite a few other individuals are
getting. When attempting to access files on a share, I receive ""The
specified server cannot perform the requested operation".
After determining that it's the K885250 Hotfix that's causing this problem,
I tried to find a fix for it.
The MS website gives me options to get support but I can't have an OEM
install of XP. So instead of me trying to figure if they're going to charge
me $35.00 to give me a patch to fix their patch, I wanted to see if anyone
had already gotten the fix.

Can anyone help a brother out?

Hi ,

The cause of the problem could be a conflict with a Third party software.

Boot Windows XP in safe mode F8
Go to start; run and type msconfig
Select services ; hide all Microsoft services
Click on disable all (third party services left)
Click OK and Reboot PC in normal mode

See symptoms and enable third party services one by one until you finfd the
one that gives you problems.
