I have 2 files that cannot delete or fix, I have also run Spy Doctor and it
leaves them as well. I have tried to follow Norton instructions to get rid of them but they don't apply. Now my computer tech tells me to back up all files and reinstall my operating system which is XP. What is the best way to back up files and is this actually necessary. I am not completely new to computers but have never done this type of thing before. Nancy |

Are these files causing a problem?? If they are just a nuisance then that
seems to be kind of drastic to reinstall the operating system if everything else seems to work right. It might help to logon as a local administrator and boot into Safe Mode to try and delete the files and I would run CheckDisk first. If you have not already done so be sure to do your spyware and malware scans while booted into Safe Mode. While in safe mode try using the command prompt with the del command to delete the files. You also want to make sure that administrators have full control to the files and the administrator may need to take ownership first of the files first. See the links below on how to take ownership and change permissions on folders and files. In some cases even that may not work [illegal characters in filename, etc.] and you may have to try more advanced techniques to delete the les. --- Steve http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;308418 http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;308421 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320081 "Nancy19h" <Nancy19h@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:927655DB-2486-4C50-89A1-2D0D09E6B5F4@microsoft.com... >I have 2 files that cannot delete or fix, I have also run Spy Doctor and it > leaves them as well.
