I want to create a user account which doesn't allow program downloads, or
program installs - how can I do it? A Windows "Limited" account allowed me to download a program and appeared as thought it was going to let me install it - this is what I want to stop. The Windows "Guest" account doesn't even allow internet access, so that's not really suitable. Martin |

Probably the easiest way would be to use the free Microsoft Shared Computer
Toolkit and create your restricted account and lock it down. Logon as that account, configure Internet Explorer internet web content zone to not allow downloads before you enable the Shared Computer Toolkit lockdown. It requires SP2 and uses some of the powerful technology that XP Pro has such as limited use of Software Restriction Policies to prevent the limited user from installing unauthorized software. --- Steve http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/s.../overview.mspx "Martinellis" <Martinellis@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:848CC7C8-D83C-49A3-9AAD-4C73272C315D@microsoft.com... >I want to create a user account which doesn't allow program downloads, or > program installs - how can I do it? > > A Windows "Limited" account allowed me to download a program and appeared > as > thought it was going to let me install it - this is what I want to stop. > > The Windows "Guest" account doesn't even allow internet access, so that's > not really suitable. > > Martin |

XP Home - I have the shared computer toolkit, but I can't remember seeing anything about the web content zone - does this only apply to XP Pro? |

You have to logon as the user, open Internet Explorer, select tools/internet
options/security - internet zone. The select custom settings, find downloads - file downloads and check disabled. --- Steve "Martin Ellis" <MartinEllis@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5552CC65-18FB-463E-8010-6AD73ECB81CE@microsoft.com... > "Martinellis" wrote: > > XP Home - I have the shared computer toolkit, but I can't remember seeing > anything about the web content zone - does this only apply to XP Pro? |
