I re-installed my system last spring using a slipstreamed CD that I had made.
Not knowing it would be a problem I used a new OEM cd that I had, instead of the winXP upgrade CD that I had bought. I had an occassion to have to D/L a hotfix and was not able to do so. I used the WGA that I D/L and still not able to do so. I think that the problem is that I need to change the product key number to the purchased copy that I bought. How can I do that? Thanks |

How can I do that? > Thanks Since you've mixed differing types of installation media, you can't simply change the Product ID. You'll need to perform a repair installation using the correct CD and Key. Product Keys are bound to the specific type and language of CD/license (OEM, Volume, retail, full, or Upgrade) with which they are purchased. For example, a WinXP Home OEM Product Key won't work for any retail version of WinXP Home, or for any version of WinXP Pro, and vice versa. An upgrade's Product Key cannot be used with a full version CD, and vice versa. An OEM Product Key will not work to install a retail product. An Italian Product Key will not work with an English CD. Bottom line: Product Keys and CD types cannot be mixed & matched. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html You can have peace.
