I have been working on setting up my network between my computer and my
wife's computer in our home. One of the problems (of many) is I keep getting the following messege: "My Network Place Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found." I am the administrator on both machines. What can I do to resolve this issue? |

Don't you hate those messages that basically tell you to go consult with
yourself about your problem?? It would really help to know the operating system of both computers as in Home or Pro. There could be several things going on here but if you have XP Pro and simple file sharing is disabled then you want to make sure that both computers have an identical account as far as logon name and password. That way you can authenticate to the other computer to access the shares assuming you have proper permissions to the share and the folder that is shared. If you look in the security log via Event Viewer on the computer with the share and see logon failures you know that you are not authenticating. Another common problem is that if you have the Windows Firewall enabled without any exemptions then you will not be able to access the computer that has the share. Try to ping each computer from the other by both name and IP address to establish basic network connectivity. You can use the command ipconfig /all to see the IP address of a computer. Gordon/Steve, this is the same problem I was having as described in the post
"Subject: Management Console User/Group Item error" just two posts down from this one. I found stuff on the net that led me to checking user/group permissions on the sharing computer and found that I could not edited their permissions which may have granted the access. As I described later in that post I ended up solving my problem by starting a bunch of services like NT LM, Fast user switching, restarting RPC and others one by one, then I accessed the properties of the folder I wanted to access and selected the sharing tab. Once there I used the sharing wizzard to share the folder. The wizzard led to "set up a network" (which I had already done several times) and once I had done all this I was then able to get past the "network permissions" problem that you describe here" If Steve's links don't help maybe you could try what I did. It solved my problem. I have added my son's laptop to our home network and receive the same message
as below. Both run XP home edition. All I want is for him to share the new printer that is connected to the desktop and none of the files and folders. The wireless internet connection is working on both machines. Perhaps it is holiday frustration but how do I simply share a printer only? Thank you, Susan "Steven L Umbach" wrote: > Don't you hate those messages that basically tell you to go consult with > yourself about your problem?? > > It would really help to know the operating system of both computers as in > Home or Pro.
