I am not a sophisticated user so please bear with me...
I am running WinXP Home with SP2. I upgraded to Office 2003 Pro from Office XP Pro about 2 months ago, but I am not sure that has anything to do with the problems Problem 1: A few days ago I started having problems with my Shared Documents Folder. I cannot write to or delete any of the files in that folder. I have unchecked the 'read only' box in the properties for the folder several times but each time I click the "APPLY" button I get a box that reads "An error occurred applying attributes to the file: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\{some file name}" When I click the "IGNORE" button, the box reappears with the next file name and the next etc. ad nausium. My wife and I each have an administrator profile and I cannot fix it from either one. Problem 2: In my effort to solve Problem 1, I started poking around to see if there is some other way to fix things. I went to Control Panel, clicked the "System" icon, clicked the "Advanced" tab, and clicked the "Settings" button in the "User Profiles" area. I saw my profile, my wife's profile, the "Guest" profile, and a profile named "Administrator". I thought it might have some higher level of access. Since I do not have an "Administrator" button on my Welcome screen, I hit CTL-ALT-DEL and I typed "Administrator" in the name box and left the password box blank. I got an error message saying the account is restricted. I wonder who it is restricted to! I really appreciate any suggestions. |
