Default Smart card reader Problem

Hi There,

I have just recently upgraded from Win 2000 Pro SP4 to Win XP SP 1 (Then
Upgraded to service pack 2). Since the upgrade my smart card reader does not
work. The reader looks like it is installed in the Device Manager.

I have a Gem Plus serial smart card reader.

I am getting the following event ID error messages:

Event ID: 201
Event ID 110
Event ID:104

Can any one help?

Remove the Smart Card and drivers and the signing software (ActiveCard Gold, NetSign, etc.)
then reinstall all.
Make sure you use WinXP drivers and/or software versions.

I have found the perfect knowledge base article that describes my
problem exactly. The article number is 832082. By the time I
discovered this article I had already installed XP SP2, which was
supposed to have solved the problem. However, the problem remained.

There was an explanation at the bottom of the article what to do if
the problem still occurred after loading SP2. I performed that fix as
it was explained. At least, now the Smart Card service starts with no
problem.

However, my smart card apps can all now at least establish a context
but cannot retrieve a list of SC readers. So, in essence I am still
stuck.

I don't know "GemSAFE ". I have use ActivCard Gold {
http://www.actividentity.com/en/index.php } and NetSign { http://www.litronic.com/ } as the
middleware that allows one to be able to access PKI protected web sites and sign and/or
encrypt email.

I suggest you contact the vendor -- http://www.gemplus.com/products/gemsafe_libraries/ &
