I have a huge problem. I had to rebuild a laptop so I bought a 160GB
external drive and ran the migwiz to backup the settings and put them on the
external HD the total was about 12GB. Now when I try to restore them it
takes about 40mins while saying organizing your files and settings to
trasnfer. Then it goes through an undo. does not give any specifics about
why other than saying make sure you have enough space. The dirve has 55.1GB
on it as a destination drive and 140GB on the external. I have seen that it
requries upto 4 times the amount of space to do this so I changed the temp
directories to be the external and I see that it is using that drive but I
still get the error. The KB articles I have seen say to look for the
fastwiz.log and look for errors. But there is no such file. I DESPERATELY
need to figure out how to get this data back PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I have tried just about everything at this point. Tried using a few
utilities out there fastconv which always said invalid source store. could
not get that to work. I found a few articles that talked about the files
being marked as read only. Tried changing that. All to no avail. There has
to be a way to get the information out of these files......

Anyone out there know how to extract anything out of these files. There has
to be something out there that can at least read them....

There is a utility named fastconv that can be used to extract data
from a USMT 2.x store (and FSTW is using a USMT 2.0 data store)

This tool can be optained from PSS or from this link
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/utils/FASTConv.zip
