Win XP Home Edition. The PC is an ACPI one. Fresh from the store with 256 MB
RAM. Intel motherboard. How do I turn on the Hibernation option in Power Mngt. Some more background: [1] I also have some DirectX which for some reason Google Earth can't work with (I saw that some people believe that Hibernation problems are related to video cards). [2] I believe I saw somewhere that the system has 4 GB of some sort of memory (but I can't find it again); in all "common" places I am looking at (eg, System Properties/ Advanced / Performance) I see the correct RAM and VM sizes. Seems strange to me that with so many questions about Hibernation, MS has not published a simple utility to diagnose and set it up right, instead there are many bits and pieces of long troubleshooting and configurations texts to set it up :-( |

Open Power Options Properties...
Start | Run | Type: powercfg.cpl | Click OK | Hibernate tab | Select: Enable hibernation If the Hibernate tab is unavailable, your computer does not support this feature. To put your computer into hibernation, you must have a computer whose components and BIOS support this option. I.e. the BIOS and video drivers. Use Hibernate and Standby http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...hibernate.mspx To automatically put your computer into hibernation http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...bernation.mspx To manually put your computer into hibernation http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...bernate_w.mspx Microsoft DirectX: Home Page http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx Download details: DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en -- Hope this helps.
