error 0000004e and 000000de installing xp on computer

i am trying to install winxp on 3 similar computers. for 2 of 3 it's done.
this third one starts having problems installing files and you can retry but
it wont work, and if you hit esc all the files after it have trouble too, and
it eventually gives the stop error messages. Does anyone know what might be
causing this? these are compaq machines, i'm using brand new widnows cd's
(service pack 1a). It also says PFN_LIST_CORRUPT.
