I just bought a new computer.. that came with Windows Xp Home. I have a
Windows XP Pro disc that I'm trying to install. When I click on Install Windows Xp I get a pop up message that says "Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD. Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be recovered." I want Windows XP Pro, I don't want to lose all my programs, files, and folders... is there anything I can do? Why is it saying home edition is better then the pro edition? Thanks nofx1728 |

It saying HOME is newer because of all the updates that have been installed.
I don't think you can upgrade with a full version without formating the hard drive. There is really no difference between Home and Pro except for some networking things. your new computer has XP w/SP2.
your XP Pro cd doesn't have SP2. if SP2 was an download/update to new computer, it can be removed and then you could use your pre sp2 xp pro cd to install xp pro. then download and install sp2 if SP2 was original, then you will need to make slipstream CD XP PRO with SP2. or buy xp pro wi/sp2 already slipstreamed.
