Default Which version of XP for my product key

After virus infection I thought the best I could do is reinstall Windows.
I did have te product key on the machine so I started the setup.
Apparently I used the wrong CD so the wasn't the right one for this CD.
I can't boot the machine so I don't know for sure which XP version etc.
I don't have the original CD.

Any chances of getting to know which version
of XP I do need? The Product Key label on the machine tells me:

Windows XP Professional 1- 2CPU
HPQ

I tried some borrewed CD's of a friend of mine, with no succes!
Need to know if it is a
SP2 product key
OEM product key
etc.

It's stuck on your computer?
It's an OEM.

Don't be..
The CD Key is stuck to your machine - not a nice CD case.
It's OEM.

The OEM Product Key affixed to your PC is only
valid with your PC manufacturer's recommended
Windows XP recovery method. You'll need
to contact them for assistance.

I do not know if it is OEM or not!
The ProductKey label doesn't state 'OEM'!
Should it if it was OEM?

It is an OEM - 99.999% sure.

If this Operating System (Windows XP) came installed on the Compaq - then
there is no doubt left it was an OEM.

Compaq may or may not have provided an actual Windows XP CD - but must have
provided some way to restore to "shipping status". That way would be
explained in the manuals and such that shipped with the machine. It could
have been a Windows XP CD, a "restoration/recovery" CD/DVD set, a
"restoration/recovery" partition or various other methods.

However - the sticker on the machine - if it has a CD key - is for an OEM
version of Windows XP.
