Default Sysprep V2 vs Sysprep V1 for XP

I have installed XP SP2. I have disabled the service “server”. If I run
sysprep V2 I get a pop up window that states the version of sysprep is not
compatible with the OS. If I use sysprep V1 it works fine. If I enable the
server service I can use sysprep V2 just fine. Yes I know this is probably
just a stupid human trick but...It leads me to ask the following questions.

Is this normal behavior? If this is normal behavior, is there any other
ways I should no about that while running XP with service pac 2 that sysprep
V2 will not work?

Default RE: Sysprep V2 vs Sysprep V1 for XP

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! You just scored major karma points!

Your posting resolved the issue in my posting "Sysprep incompatibility error
with SP2 build"
You saved me a lot of troubleshooting. It would have been a while until I
would found the relationship with the Server service.

Now, I too have concerns that there are other un-documented requirements for
Sysprep v2 that aren't necessarily obvious and may cause problems in future
versions of our SP2 image.

Microsoft???
