i built a new (faster comp) for my Wife and she everything thats on her hard
drive the same. How can I use the old hard drive in the new comp.

I put the drive in the new computer and started it up,I reconized all the
drives,video card,I could go to the Bios and set everything,then when Windows
tries to start I
get this same stuff:" I get the message: We
apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A
recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

I've clicked on every option given and the same thing happens every time.
The windows startup begins, a blue screen flashes--too quickly to be able to
read the text, then the screen with the boot up options appears; immediately
afterwards it goes back to the original screen with the "apology" quoted
above.
I saw a posting in this forum touching this subject saying that if windows
doesn't start, press F8 and start in safe mode with command prompt. I tried
that too but it just lead me to the "apology" again. When from the original
screen I enter "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" it lists a bunch of commands,
but gives me no prompt. It then goes into the sequence of events already
described above. "
If I take the hard drive and put it back in the old computer it boots up
fine,no problems.
If i have to do a clean Install to the new computer,can I migrate all the
software installed,bookmarks in IE,etc to the new computer with having to
reinstall everything seperatly.

Your first option would be to run a repair installation. Take a

It should go without saying that you'll want to back up any
files that you can't afford to lose before attempting this
procedure.

If you're unable to successfully repair the existing XP
installation and you end up doing a clean install, all your
programs will have to be reinstalled.

There are a number of ways to backup and move your data files.
One of the easiest
is the File and Settings Transfer wizard.

Take a look at sysprep, if moving from an old shitbox to a new PC pay
particular attention to the HAL under device manager, may pay to change
it to the longwinded (forget the wording) ACPI option from uniprocessor
or whatever it's on prior to doing the sysprep, just make sure you get a
good image of the drive before doing so.
