Hello all,

i am running a dell dimension 4550 windows xp home edition which was
updated with service pack two(but only have original xp home CD no
service pack)

i just recently had the hal.dll mising or corrupt problem, copyed hal
and another dll to the computer, then it said the kernel needed more
dlls, i did a repair install and now im running into the problem of
asms needed. I have the XP cd which may possibly be scuffed in the area
where asms is located or perhaps my cd drive isnt striking when it
should, though it does boot from it if i want to go to the recovery
console. the main problem is when im prompted to enter the xp cd for
asms my keyboard and mouse arent recognized. what options do i have
that wont put my data at risk? will a usb keyboard be recognized? im
using a ps2 keyboard. expand and copy wont let me get asms from the D:
should i just create a set of floppy boot discs? thanks for the help.
