I'm currently running WinME (over Win98) on my PC and want to install WinXP,
which I've recently purchased as an OEM version, officially licensed with COA, totally legit. For some unknown reason, the XP install goes smoothly until it reaches the "Welcome to Windows Setup" blue screen, at which point the PC totally switches off. It's exactly as if I've hit the restart button, but the computer stays off instead of restarting. No error message, no notification, just KLICK and that's all. Since I'm trying to install an OEM version of XP, I've wiped the HDD to do a clean install, ran fdisk, reformatted the C: drive, taken out every perhipheral that's been installed, flashed my BIOS (which is XP compatible) and even checked the CPU fan and exhaust for dust bunny blockage. Nothing helps, and it's not a random thing. The exact thing happens at the exact same point in the install every time. Is there something I'm missing here? I'm thinking that it must be something in my BIOS, some setting I'm missing? I'm not a superuser tech deluxe when it comes to this, but I pride myself in trying to learn as much as I can so I can be as self-sufficient as possible, not to mention being able to help others as a result. I'm hoping that someone (anyone!) can help me out with this. I'm posting this from work so I don't have the tech specs on my PC, but I'm happy to supply the info in a follow up post if anyone needs it. Thanx! |

You're not by any chance trying to install with a wireless keyboard/mouse? If you are you will need to enable 'USB support' or similar wording in the BIOS. -- BurrWalnut ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Posted via http://www.mcse.ms ------------------------------------------------------------------------ View this thread: http://www.mcse.ms/message1941192.html |
