I am moving into a new laptop that has XP Pro SP2 on it. My old laptop
(also XP-Pro SP2) is still available and it contains zillions of stuff... Most of the interesting things are now moved by copying the appropriate items from one PC to the other. But one thing is really bugging me and this is the I transfer of all of my 93 dialup entries with all settings intact... I have googled for hours but only found useless advice such as exporting a registry key to get the settings. Well, the registry key suggested did not even contain the dialup entries... The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard does not have an item for dialup transfer so that is out too... When I moved last then I had an NT4 or possibly W2000 rasphone.pbk file that contained all of these items, but it looks like XP keeps dialups in a different way. Where??? Is there *really* no way to move these connection items over??? Bo Berglund bo.berglund(at)nospam.telia.com |

I searched for months for a way to transfer all my dialup connectoids when I moved from Win98 to WinXP Pro, but I finally had to do it manually - which turned out not to be so bad. Since all the dialup connectoids are likely to have the same set of parameters except for the telephone numbers, you can just keep cloning one master connectoid and just enter a different telephone number in each one. It's tedious, but not really as hard as you might imagine. Just set up one complete connectoid to use as a master copy. Then rt-click the "master" connectoid and select "Create Copy" from the drop-down list. Then, in the new connectoid, enter a telephone number. That's all. I had 55 telephone numbers, and it took less than half an hour. But with a list of 98 telephone numbers, it might take you longer. Have a beer, och ha det så bra. :-) *TimDaniels* |

Since I have now found how to get *all* of the dialup entries transferred: 1. Copy %systemroot%\system32\ras\pasphone.pbk to the same location on the new PC. 2. Restart the new PC (this was a step I did not know was needed) After the PC comes back up again it will register the new connections and modify the modem settings, most probably the modem in the new PC is not the same as in the old one. This took a couple of minutes in my case. 3. Now with the connectoids in place I tried one and it turns out that all info is there *except* the user/password login combination. So if there are many connections all with different logins and passwords then there is a lot of work still to do. But anyway the basic stuff has been done by the rasphone.pbk file transfer. My %systemroot%\system32\ras folder has only ..nf and .scp files - no .pbk files and nothing called "rasphone" in it or in the entire system. *TimDaniels* |
