Hi everyone,
I'm getting ready to install two new computers for developpers and I was wondering if the following scenario was possible: 1) Create a new Virtual PC with Windows XP SP2, install everything required. 2) Sysprep the VPC. 3) Ghost from the VPC. 4) Partion target as required (?) 5) Restore Ghost to the physical computer. I'd like to start from a VPC because the new computers won't be here for a week or so and I'd like to get a headstart, also if possible I'd use the VPC image as a base for future installs and for testing purposes. I know it's possible (and suggested for legacy applications) to move from a physical pc to a virtual pc, however I haven't found anything to do a reverse process (in this newsgroup or after googling). Other questions: 1) The new computers will have a 200 GB HDD, is it better to split them into 2 partitions or to leave them as is? My concern is about configuring the partition(s) in VPC (NTFS dynamic) and how ghost/sysprep can handle this. 2) Sql Server will be installed (probably Express 2005), is anything required after sysprep? I recall when ghosting Win2000 computers with MSDE if the computers were on the same network I had to "reset" the MSDE install on each computer (I didn't knew about sysprep then). Is the same required even after sysprepping? 3) IIS will be installed as well, any concerns here/modifications to do after restoring the image? ~TIA! Simon |
