to all,
last night i got my hands on xp pro and went through the process of upgrading my laptop from xp home. i need it for the iis and related tools so that i can fully se .NET. Any, at the begining of the install, i got the blue screen of death saying "was unable to verify drive C" i tried a couple of things, then rebooted. as my pc comes back to life, i get a prompt with a choice of what operating system to go into, home or pro, and then thereis a third choice too. going into pro, only leads me to reinsserting my install disk, and then getting the same error messages, on using the home os everything is all screwed up (half my tools dont work, my fonts aRe all off, things running slow etc) i used system restore to fix this after the first attempt, then on my second attempt, i went back to system restore, only to find all my dates had gone. so, apologies if this is long winded, now i am at a point, where i i just want to completly remove xp pro and have what i had to start with. i looked in add/remove programs to see if i could just uninstall what had gotten onto my pc there, but couldnt find anything. can someone please help me with this, or help me fix my problem with the install. i read a few related articles to this error message, but none of the solutions sound like they are for my laptop as i had xp home to start with so all my hardware should be fine..... correct? anyway, i am off to work, thanks for an help, i will beback in 9 hours tom |

An upgrade to Windows XP Pro is a smooth transition and will not affect your
current programs or files if you use the following procedure: 1. Purchase a conventional "Retail Upgrade Version" [boxed] of Windows XP Professional. 2. Uninstall your antivirus program. 3. Perform a backup of your important documents and files to a CD, DVD, or other backup media. 4. Disconnect all hardware peripheral devices, except the monitor, keyboard and mouse. 5. While running Windows XP Home, insert the Windows XP Pro CD in the drive and select the default "Upgrade" setup option. [Do not select "New Installation"] 6. Visit the Windows Update site to download all the critical updates. 7. Reinstall your antivirus program, then defrag your hard drive. In order to return to Windows XP Home Edition, you must perform a "Clean Install".
