Default Error Loading Operating System

The title of this message is the problem I'm having when I try and install XP
Home on an older computer. The mobo is a Gigabyte GA-6BXC with an Intel P3
500mhz CPU. The hard drive is a WD 40GB. The system has over 650Mbs of RAM
on it. I can get to the point where XP reboots and after the POST, I get the
mesage "Press any key to boot from CD". After a few seconds, I get the error
message "Error Loading Operating System". I've run CD based diagnostic
programs on the the hard drive and the WD drive is allright. The MBR is OK
and there are no bad spots on the drive. I've reformatted the drive, cheked
to make sure I've got it plugged into the Primary IDE connector. I've even
swapped out the ATA connector cable for a new one and same message.

Default RE: Error Loading Operating System

Followup to my original posting:
I've flashed my BIOS thinking that the Gigabyte Mobo could not handle a
hard drive above 33Gbs. I still get the same error message. Need help!

Try typing error message in Google search.
Lots of hits.
some change bios for HDD from CHS to LBA
other used win 98 fdisk /mbr.

why do you think your MBR is ok?
