I have a problem with my current Intel Motherboard. Intel wants me to ship it
to them for replacement (It still works, but have to be replaced for fan
problems).

However, I am a student and requirer my computer everyday. I cannot just
stop using it for a few weeks while waiting for the new motherboard to show
up at the door. It doesn't seem to interest them because they do not want to
do a cross shipping.

My only other option is to ghost my current Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive to
my older Parallel (PATA) hard drive and re-install in the older machine.

Since I am using nearly 50 programs, a clean install is absolutely out of
the question because I don't have a full week to spend (specially considering
the end of semester exams, homeworks and studies coming).

I am currently using a Windows XP Pro copy supplied by my school.

My question is, can I ghost my current HD to the old one, install it in the
old machine and reactivate by doing a repair install and reverse the
procedure back to my current machine once I receive the new motherboard?

Your best bet - time-wise - is to post-pone the RMA until after finals.
