Lucky you! Unfortunately I haven't got this much luck.
I have a HP zv6251EA laptop, so I can't change (and I don't want to either) any hardware too. As a factory dedault Windows XP Home was installed on the machine. Then I decided to use linux. This installation from cdrom went fine and I had a 100% linux machine (is it dangerous to tell this here?). Since I still need Windows for a number of programs for school I decided to make the laptop dual boot. Therefore I first need to install a version of Windows and after that I have to install some linux OS. Well, normally you just put in the Win XP Home (provided by HP in both English and Dutch in my case) cdrom and the installation begins. I get a message like: "Press a key to start from cdrom" (and I press a key) Then Windows installation says: "Configuring hardware etc." and goes into a blank screen as described above. No cdrom/HD lights flicker anymore and I can only reboot. All Windows Xp Home EN, Windows XP Home NL and Windows XP Pro EN do this while my Windows 2000 can be installed successfully on this machine!!! I thought they pretty much had the same installer!!! This also pretty much rules out the idea that the blank screen is caused by some display adapter. I know that I have to disable framebuffering for the linux installation so maybe that's the difference between the Windows 2000 and Windows XP installers. Anyway I've installed Win2000 now and I've upgraded to Windows XP Pro, so my problem is gone. It remains strange however that a large manufacturer like HP ships Windows XP cdroms that can only be used for installing Windows XP Home (in another language) by copying all installation files into a directory previous to rebooting and installing the new Windows XP Home version. Besides that I wouldn't be able to solve my problem when I had not got Windows 2000. It's a strange world... Greatings "Mike Matheny" schreef: > Glad we could help!!
