Default Playing DVD copies on my system

I am unable to play DVD copies on my system. I am able to play them on my
DVD player. I have no problem playing commercial DVD's. I use both WMP-10
and Nero 6.1 with all updates. I want to take a course I purchased that the
seller apparently burned himself. Any suggestions?
Bob

He may have burned on a -R disk and your player is +R only... or vice versa.

Thanks for the answer, my drives are supposed to recognize all formats. Key
word being "supposed". My reader is a Pioneer DVD-110 and burner is a NEC
DVD RW ND 3500AG. I have been using DVD+ disks. In response to your
suggestion, I just tried copying to a DVD-RW. Same results on either drive.
The menu will open but when I try to play any segment, I get a black screen.
The control bar indicates playing, but the chapter and time do not advance.
My faithful Sony DVD play loves the copy! This whole mess appeared to start
after I had to reload my system. I am running XP Pro with all updates. I
have a 2.4gh Pentium with a gig of ram. I don't think I have a resource
problem.
Thanks for the help.

Have you tried using RecordNow! to make an exact copy of the DVD? If it is a
real DVD then you may want to try Smartripper to rip it and DVD x to restore
it to *.mpg format that Nero and/or RecordNow can convert back to DVD Format.

I have "DVD Cloner". It will make an exact copy of any DVD. They will not
play either.
