Hi,

I just received an TFT-screen (Benq FP2091, max resolution 1600x1200).
I've
connected this monitor to my IBM laptop T41 (ATI Mobility Fire GL 9000
AGP)
at the DVI-port of my portreplicator. The display is correctly identified
and is showing a max resolution of 1600x1200 for the external monitor.

Unfortunately the TFT only is showing 1280x1024 and is using 1600x1200 as
a
virtual desktop. (Having a black frame around the entire picture; not
using
the full screen size).

If I am using the analog connector, I am getting the 1600x1200 to the
TFT -
but of course the picture is not of the quality as it would be when using
the digital link.

I am using WinXP with the latest ATI/IBM drivers downloaded from IBM's
website.

Any hints?

I suppose there is a question here somewhere, but I can't quite find
it.

In any event, there is nothing anywhere that says that the max
resolution is necessarily the best resolution. For one thing, 1600x1200
may be too small for many monitors, depending on their size. For
another, an LCD monitor has a so called "native resolution", which is
the one that provides the best sharpness on that particular monitor.
You should find out the native resolution for your monitor and use
that.

The advantage of using higher resolution is that it may result in
increased PERCEIVED sharpness, due to the small pixels. This does not
always translate to better overall viewing under all circumstances.

obviously I didn't make it clear enough:

native resolution of my BenQ monitor is 1600 x 1200.

If I am connected via DVI connector, I am only getting 1280 x 1024
displayed -- even if I am setting the resolution on my notebook to 1600
x 1200. Expectation would be to have 1600 x 1200 (full screen)
displayed.

If I am using ANALOGUE connector, I am getting the full 1600 x 1200
displayed.

How can I get 1600 x 1200 on DVI (best picture quality)?

OK, I understand better now, not that I know the answer. Sorry I don't
use DVI).

However, I did a quick search on "monitor scaling dvi", and I found
quite a bit of info - too much to quote here. There were some comments
that said that it is possible to fill the screen with the image, using
DVI. If you haven't already done so, have a look at a few topics. Or,
perhaps your monitor documentation can help?

Your BenQ monitor probably has a borked
EDID on the DVI side (*not* the Analog side).

My Samsung 191T did as well, until I rewrote
and uploaded a corrected EDID to it.
