Hi there, I have recently purchased a Sony dvd653 camcorder. It is their new
technology which saves footage straight onto dvd mini discs. I have called up sony and they are use less. It saves in Mpeg2 format but when i go to use windows movie maker etc it doesn't accept the format. The only way i can figure to get a around it is to convert the format into avi or something. But it has taken me all day to convert two hours of footage and well to be honest who has that sort of time.....certainly not me. Is there a shorter way or a plugin for windows Xp or should i just return the camcorder? Getting totally frustrated beyond belief. please someone help me out |

Windows Movie Maker isn't designed to edit MPEG files.... try a third party
software such as Roxio (Videowave), Nero, WinDVD Creator or PowerDirector. All of them edit MPEG files just fine. www.roxio.com www.nero.com www.intervideo.com www.gocyberlink.com -- Cari (MS-MVP) Printing & Imaging "kris10_doherty" <kris10_doherty@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news 49F5E12-2433-4BEC-B9C0-A2FACB72C44C@microsoft.com...> Hi there, I have recently purchased a Sony dvd653 camcorder. I only wish that the salesman had have told me it would be such a nusense
when it came down to editing, i thought i had researched it pretty good, but gee wee was i wrong. I have to say i would not recomend this camera to anyone who actually wants to edit the footage they record. I tried editing the footage i converted, but due to the way it records i couldn't just cut out certain bits, i found it ridiculous. Thanks Graham for the info you suggested reading. I had just brought Adobe Premiere and now i can't afford to buy another editing software program, so i will try taking back the camera. So thanks stacks. Any suggestions on minidv cameras which would be much easier? we will be editing footage weekly so we will need one thats easy to use and easy to edit with. hehehhe Thanks kristen "Graham Hughes" wrote: > And my review and how to edit pages here... > http://www.myvideoproblems.com/Produ...yDCRDVD92E.htm > > -- > Graham Hughes > MVP Digital Media > www.myvideoproblems.co.uk > www.dvds2treasure.com > www.simplydv.com > > > "Cari (MS-MVP)" <Newsgroups1@coribright.com> wrote in message > news:eWmYzNCzFHA.664@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... > > Windows Movie Maker isn't designed to edit MPEG files.... try a third > > party software such as Roxio (Videowave), Nero, WinDVD Creator or > > PowerDirector. I would try returning it under unfit for the use you described. You may find
they will swap the cam if you are lucky, so make some inroads into what you want before going. Set your price limit, dv-in is good to have, as well as analogue in, useful for converting old vhs tapes etc. Digital zoom is useless, optical image stabilisation is better than electronic, but it depends on wehre your price point is to get this. Ask here for advice, or another site I use is dedicated to helping beginners with minidv, the forum is here http://forum.simplydv.co.uk/ Graham -- Graham Hughes MVP Digital Media www.myvideoproblems.co.uk www.dvds2treasure.com www.simplydv.com "kris10_doherty" <kris10doherty@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F2AED018-C43C-4C1A-8876-B6CA4601571F@microsoft.com... >I only wish that the salesman had have told me it would be such a nusense > when it came down to editing, i thought i had researched it pretty good, > but > gee wee was i wrong.
