Default Video file types

What is the difference between the various video file extensions - .avi,
..dat, .mpeg etc.? I notice .avi files take up a considerably larger space
compared to .dat for example.

Check out www.videohelp.com it'll tell you all about the different file
types, may also find your programme in there. Most free apps are made by
people who are more techy and put function before cosmetics, unlike the paid
for apps which need both.
