Help, I have a JVC GR-D53AG. I have Windows XP, have fireware cable and
card, which appear to be working properly. I have tried capturing video with
no luck on multiple softwares, (windows movie maker, Magix Movie Edit pro10)
When I turn the computer on it recognizes the camera, and I am able to
control my camera from the computer, however no video appears on the
computer nor does it capture. Any ideas

You have to get a fire-port that is manufactured by texas instruments. This
will fix all of your problems. I had this exact same problem. Your port IS
working, the JVC brand and the manufacturer of your current fire port are not
compatible. You can get a Texas Instruments fire port at any Circuit City.

I am having the same trouble with my JVC GR-D72U digital video camera. Can
you explain to me what you mean by a fire-port? I purchased the fire wire
cable directly from JVC so I'm confident it is compatable. Are you referring
to the IEEE 1394 port. If so, do you install the Texas Instrument port into
an open PCI slot?

Yes, he's referring to a standard PCI firewire card... the TI part is the
chipset. You just insert it into a PCI slot and startup in the usual way.
XP should find and install the correct drivers automatically.

The other responder was correct- sorry my terminology was confusing. Here's a

It was easy to install, just follower the computer manufacturers directions
on opening your computer. It seriously only took me about 20 minutes to do,
and at the time I was computer illiterate (not that I'm much better now!).

Thanks Chris and Cari, I bought a Pyro PCI 64 card at Circuit City, installed
it in minutes, and was capturing like a pro. For the last 6 months I thought
it was a software problem. My IEEE 1394 ports are wired right into my mother
board, so I never gave it a thought. Thanks again.
