Default Video Decoder Error

how do I get my DVD to run? all I get is "VIDEO ERROR the video decoder is
either corrupt or not installed. Please restart media center and/or restart
the computer. If problem persist, go to help for additional information" on
my media center.
I have tried the help page to no avail.
Best Buy says they can not help me unless I reinstall windows which I have
never done and have no interest in losing the programs and files I have saved

Can someone help me?

Default Re: Video Decoder Error

You need to reinstall WinDVD or PowerDVD, whichever came with your PC... you
should have a separate CD for this application.... or if you have just one
single disk, check in your PC manual on how to reinstall individual
applications.
