Default Mpeg-2 Video stops intermittently

I'm using media player 10 to play mpeg-2 files but the problem is that it
suddenly stops rendering audio as well as video for sometime & then
continues without any problem.

There is no problem when I play the same files using realplayer/divx. The
audio & video codecs used are those installed along with the 'picture
package' software from sony on purchase of camcorder.

Could someone pls help ?

It may be teh pc cannot cope with the data stream, what are your specs. Is
anything else on the pc at the same time, is it checking for emails, etc
etc??

Some comments relating to WMP10 imply that its requirements are
different from those of previous versions. I don't recall the exact
words but there was something about some decoders being incompatible
with WMP10's synchronization something-or-other feature.

There is one MS utility (can't remember the name, sorry) that lists
MPEG2 decoders that are installed on one's system and then identifies
each as being either compatible or incompatible with WMP10. This
implies that for this particular player, not every MPEG2 decoder is
useable. My own experience, which is similar to yours, confirms this.

If your decoder came with a product that is somewhat old, you may want
to get your hands on a more recent decoder and try again. Consider
downloading a trial version of PowerDVD, for example.

Thankx Graham & bxf for your replies.

The sony handycam purchase is a very recent one & hence the new 'picture
package' from sony is the latest one. Also, I do not run any other programs
when I run media player.

The problem seems to be some configuration/ codec problem etc particularly
on my home computer - which I've no clue on how to diaganose. The same things
works perfectly fine on my office computer.. Any ideas ?

Do a close comparison of the two computers, in hardware and software to see
what the differences are.
