Default MPEG video won't open in Windows Media Player

I received a MPEG video file via e-mail. It will not work on my Windows Media
Player version 9.00.00.3250. I have Windows XP Home Version 2002.

The video file is only 15 seconds long. When I hit play, nothing happens.
Advancing the video manually gives me nothing, either. I do not get any
sound, either.

I know the video works with sound on a relative's computer.

What else should I try?

If it's an MPEG1 file it should play fine. If it's an MPEG2 file it needs
DVD decoding software to play. Do you have PowerDVD or WinDVD (the two most
common DVD decoding applications) installed?

Cari,

How do I determine if the file is MPEG1 or MPEG2?

You can use G-Spot Codec Identifier...
