Default Windows XP mediafiles corrupt?

Hi here,

the other day I was downloading a Bittorrent movie and WMP 10 tried to get a
license to play it.
Then I clicked "yes" to all the questions prompted and that was my mistake
because soon I was infected with something.(yes, stupid stupid.)
My virrusscanner (McAfee) removed the corrupted file and eversince no
videofiles (streaming and downloaded) can be played. It has nothing to do
with WMP10 because I use(d)
Realplayer/Irfan/Quicktime aswell and they don't work properly now either.
Funny thing I should mention here is that Audio/Radio is no problem
whatsoever and that the rest of my comp. operates sound and fine.
Should anyone have any suggestions besides the obvious (formatting ofcourse)
I would be very grateful.
I dare not try to use any register repair and -clean software.

This is not exactly correct. It sounds like the video codec needed is
damaged or missing. You might also download and reinstall WMP10, and any of
the players that provide the codec that you need.
