Default movie pause

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop, Win XP, 2.4 processor, 1 gig ram, Intel
adapter. When playing whatever format of movie - WMA, Divx, Real, the play
will pause on a regular basis, almost as if it is catching up, then resume.
There are even times when the sound continues while the video stops. Some
movies are worse than others, but all seem to do it to some extent.
I have looked everywhere in the system for a memory setting or something to
help resolve the problem but cannot find anything pertaining to video.
Any ideas for me?
Thanks...gary moore

Are you running a lot of other programs at the same time?

No, all of the pauses have happened when the movie was the only thing running
and the laptop was not even hooked to the internet.
Thanks...gary

Those laptops have slow rpm hard drives to save battery power, maybe thats
the problem. I would never use any laptop to do any capturing because of
this factor.
