Default Windows Movie Maker Poor quality

When I import video, edit then resave it, the quality is not as good. I am
trying to capture video from my PC monitor.

I have tryed several apps (trials) inculding River Past, Lead and Fox Magic
Screen Virtuoso. I have saved to both wmv and avi. When I view the original
files, the video is pretty crisp. After imorting it into Windows Movie and
re-saving, the quality gets less.
On a separate issue, I have had audio problems as well. When saving as wmv,
I have good synching but a murky (not too bad) recording. When saving to
avi, I get about a minute in and then the sound slows to a crawl. This
happens with several apps, so I am doing something wrong.
