I use it often - on many machine with many different configurations and do
not have the trouble you describe.
Printing.. Copy/Paste text, etc - all work great.

I do utilize the Windows 2003 RDC instead of the one that came with Windows
XP - so that MAY make a difference..

Otherwise - the only trouble I had with these options was when i installed
SP2 and then would have more than one RD connection open at a time - it
sometimes would not copy/paste unless I closed all but one of the sessions.

Yes, I too had good results using remote assistance in the past on this PC
even after SP2, but now I get the described error message. A MS page I
recently visited talked about a "hotfix" and said to check the "dphnpast.dll"
file. I searched my PC and found I didn't have this file so I ran sfc.exe and
was able to extract and install it from my installation CD hoping that was
the problem, but unfortunately, no. Please stay with me on this to help solve
my problem or perhaps direct me to a source to research it further. Thanks.

I have the same problem. Others can see my desktop, but I can't see theirs (I
get teh Remote Assistance Failed. Try Again." message.

I have:

1) opened port forwarding in my router for port 3389
2) checked "remote assistance" and "remote terminal" exceptions in Windopws
firewall
3) turned of the Windows firewall

Nothing worked

Default Re: Remote Assistance Failed

Aloha Cliff,
From what I've been able to determine so far, the person giving Remote
Assistance doesn't need to be concerned about port forwarding. Only the
person receiving the RA if he(she) is behind a router. In my case the
receiver is not behind a router and I can connect to him with other Pcs
behind my router, but my PC generates the "Remote Assistance Failed" message.
That pretty much leaves some setting or registry value that got changed or
corrupted in WinXP.
I'm glad you tagged onto my post and hope someone in the know will get us
some help. I'm pretty sure there are others having this problem. I've been
pretty dilligent in trying to find a fix and I think exhausted all I can
think of short of the "Pay per incident" from MS (which hasn't proved very
helpfull in the past). HELP, PLEASE

Sorry to say that I have not received any meaningful responses yet. I even
tried a newsgroup on DSLReports.com, but no help there either. If you find a
solution, please let me know and I'll do the same.
