Default VPN and Printers

We have a couple of users who are located in a seperate building - they use
a VPN connection to get to their files and email. The frustrating thing is
that they cannot print anything while the VPN is connected. I got an error
message saying that the VPN blocked the local network. Currently the user
sends items to print, waits for the error message closes the vpn connection
and then it automatically reprints it. It's a bit of a hack and I don't get
many amused looks when I explain how to print.

My second user is in a seperate building and uses the VPN connection to
establish a Remote desktop connection (easiest way around our firewall) and
again can't send anything to his local printer. In fact despite turning
printer sharing for the RD on his local printer never appears, I suspect
this to be because of the VPN again.

Is there any way round this 'feature'?

Thanks, Victoria
