Default Remote Desktop Connections (RDC)

I would like to connect to my fathers PC but I have a big issue.

He's not PC Literate and gets very confused when I try to talk him through
connecting via RDC. We both have XP Home and Broadband.

My questions are;

1.How would I put the command line c:\windows\System32\mstsc.exe on a CD
that he could run.

2. Is it possible to put a command in an email that I would send to him
(like a hyper link) that he click on to open up RDC for example:
c:\windows\System32\mstsc.exe.

3. Will it work in XP Home if the 2 PC's are not on the same network.

4. Will our only hope be to use Remote Assistance, if so were is it located
and is there a way of saving all settings his end so that all he has to do
is to click on an icon.

Sorry for all the questions but I need to make it as easy for him as possible.

Default Re: Remote Desktop Connections (RDC)

I think you have it mixed up. If your trying to help your father fix issues
on his PC then...

In order to use Remote Desktop...

1. His PC must be running XP Pro...
2. You initiate the RDP link from your end...

See this page for help with all of that...Remote Desktop needs TCP Port 3389
open on any firewall/router that maybe between your fathers PC and the
public internet.

If his PC is running XP Home then you need to use a third-party solution
like UltraVNC with its encryption plug-in...UltraVNC needs TCP Port 5900
open on any firewall/router that maybe between your fathers PC and the
public internet.

http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/

You initiate the UltraVNC link from your end...

In either case its best if you travel to his house and set this up...IMHO...

Otherwise, as you noted Remote Assistance is an option if your both running
XP (any flavor)... The "Messenger" option would probably be best in that
case...
