I finally got rdp to work, I had a firewall issue in McAfee's program.
Thanks Al Sooner for your help... Now the question that I have is... I would like to access all of the machines on my home network, from the office. 3 different machines on the same network, plus a wireless printer. I would like to access these pc's so if my kids have a problem I could see or install the programs for their computers as an administrator. I work a 24 hr shift, and sometimes they can not wait till I get home. Is this at all possible?? I mean if I have them place the CD in the drive at home, and I install it from work over the Remote Desktop??? Since I have full control of the PC. Thanks, Jamie |

You can access multiple PC's, with Remote Desktop, that are behind a
firewall/NAT/router by a variety of options including opening multiple ports on the firewall/NAT/router, setting up a VPN or using Secure Shell (SSH). Personally I use a SSH solution to access multiple PC's on my home LAN. It is possible to connect to all of your machines but you will have to do
some work to make it happen. Option #1 change the port numbers for the other two machines in your network that Remote Desktop uses. To do this you need to be familiar with registry editting. If you have not done this before than I would not recommend you go this route. If you do a search on Microsoft for RDP Ports you should be able to find the info on how to do this. Option #2 is to download and install UltraVNC, TightVNC, WinVNC, and run an instance of the remote server software on each machine. Once you have done this remotely connect to your original machine and then use VNC Viewer which comes with the download to connect to one of the other machines from the machine you are currently connected to. It is like hopscotching around but it works fine and you can transfer files using UltraVNC as well. There is a Video Hook driver that you should also install to speed up the connection on the LAN. |
