I have a laptop and a tower. Both run Windows XP SP2. The tower doesn't have
a keyboard or monitor attached; I control it entirely from the laptop. How should I shut down the tower? I don't get the option to select Turn Off Computer when I view the tower's desktop from my laptop, but neither does pressing the button on the computer turn it off (though I've specified that the button do this in the Power Options control panel). Is there an option I need to set to allow me to turn off the computer remotely? Or is there software other than RDP that will allow me to do this? |

run the command "shutdown.exe" included in XP and get some help on how to
use it. "jimstoic" <jimstoic@discussions.microsoft.com> a écrit dans le message de news: 955AB43F-CC6F-41B6-9427-253BD03F4318@microsoft.com... >I have a laptop and a tower. Both run Windows XP SP2. Thanks.
I found some other good advice elsewhere: On the remote machine, right click on the clock, and select Task Manager. Task Manager has a Shutdown menu, which includes items to Turn Off and Restart. Those do the same thing as the missing Start Menu items. There are a couple of things you can do.
1. Press CTL ALT END (same as CTL ALT DELETE on local PC). Then you can choose shutdown. 2. On the remote PC use the DOS command called "shutdown". Type in shutdown /? to see the switches that are required. I hope this helps, Kirt "jimstoic" <jimstoic@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:955AB43F-CC6F-41B6-9427-253BD03F4318@microsoft.com... >I have a laptop and a tower.
