I am trying to access my work computer from home, both xp pro. VPN is authenticated first, then I try to connecting via RDP after that. I then receive the message "the client couldn't connect to the remote computer." I enter the ip address of my work computer (given by sys adm) enter my username and password of my work computer when using RDP to connect. I also had sys adm log onto my work computer from his own home and he was successful. I am behind a westell modem and a linksys 4 port router. I don't know if there is anything else I could do.
